BC school teacher charged with sexual assault; police seek witnesses

staff report
September 14, 2023 8:18am

A Kootenay River Secondary School teacher has been arrested for allegations of sexual offences against two students.

On September 8, Kianuko Wayne Louie was charged with sexual exploitation, sexual assault, criminal harassment, extortion, and telecommunications to lure a child under 18. He was also charged with possessing child pornography, under the Criminal Code of Canada.

It’s alleged that he committed the offences while teaching at Kootenay River Secondary School between October 2022 and June 2023. He was released from custody on numerous bail conditions, which include having no contact with the two victims. He is also not allowed to go to any public park or school grounds where people under the age of 18 are expected to be present.

His next court appearance is on September 28. Police said some of his communications occurred over the internet, and possibly social media. Given this, it may be possible that other individuals may have knowledge of these offences, and simply haven’t come forward yet.

“Police are wanting anyone who may have any knowledge of these offences to please come forward,” said Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk, Creston Detachment Commander. “We recognize the profound impact such revelations may have on our community and the distress it We’re urging anyone with information, or those who may have been directly affected, to come forward.”

If anyone has information, or who was directly affected, please contact the Creston RCMP (250) 428-9313 and quote file 2023-2044.
