Woodfibre LNG has announced donations of $130,000 to 36 local non-profits in Squamish and Squamish Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) as part of the company’s second intake of the 2023 Community Partnership Program. This follows $151,000 contributed to 42 local non-profits in the program’s spring 2023 intake.
With the Woodfibre LNG Project starting construction this year, the company says it increased the 2023 budget for the Community Partnership Program and expanded the funding intake cycle to occur twice per year, with recipients being eligible to apply for funding once per year, unless it is for a different and unrelated project.
The Community Partnership Program aims to support local organizations that make important contributions to the local community through their programs and events in sports, recreation, health and wellness, arts and culture, and local search and rescue and marine safety organizations.
“We are pleased to support so many hardworking non-profit organizations in Squamish and the SLRD through our Community Partnership Program,” said Christine Kennedy, Woodfibre LNG President.
“Woodfibre LNG will be part of the community of Squamish over the long term, and it is a priority for us to support the important work of local non-profit organizations in the community. In our second intake for 2023, we continue to support local organizations such as the Squamish Hospital Foundation, the Squamish Senior Living Society, Squamish Search and Rescue and many others. Follow Woodfire LNG’s social channels for information on how our 2023 funding will support these organizations and for information on our 2024 funding intakes.”
For fall 2023, Woodfibre LNG is also recognizing the health care needs of the growing community by contributing $10,000 to the Squamish General Hospital Auxiliary Society for the purchase of a fetal heart monitor, and $10,000 to the Squamish Hospital Foundation for the purchase of a pediatric simulation mannequin (‘SIM doll’) The SIM doll will serve as a patient simulator, using sophisticated modelling to reflect human physiology.
“Thank you Woodfibre LNG for supporting Squamish General Hospital’s ongoing training. This generous funding for a pediatric SIM doll means an enhanced training experience for healthcare staff, which in turn helps us better serve local patients in the community, especially as Squamish continues to grow with pediatric patients being 20 per cent of ER visits,” Karen Vanzella, President Squamish Hospital Foundation
