District launches survey on splash park, new playground

The District of Squamish is seeking public input on a Splash Park and Playground planned at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre.

The district has just begun the design process for this $1.7 million project, though the location of the splash park has not been decided. However, it will be near the recreation center building and playing fields. The Splash Park and the playground may be located side-by-side.

The design is expected to be complete this year, and both facilities will open in 2025. “Working with the community, this Splash Park and Playground will be built with a focus on accessibility. We want to ensure it has inclusive features and will allow all children to use and enjoy this area,” the District says.

The district seeks the public’s input on what features and elements can be included in the park and playground. The survey will take about five minutes, and the responses will help the district design the park and playground. It will be live from Feb 1, 2024, until March 1, 2024.

A new dog park at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre is also expected to open to the public in 2024.

These amenities are part of the upgrade underway at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre, but all the upgrades will take several years as the funding becomes available. The district’s big vision for the future Brennan Park Recreation Centre includes a second ice rink and second pool, as well as new programming and administration space, accessibility upgrades, and energy retrofits.
