Wind warning issued for Howe Sound

staff report
February 28, 2024 7:31am

A wind warning has been issued for Howe Sound. Strong winds that may cause damage are expected in the southern sections of the Howe Sound and near Bowen Island. South to southeast winds of 70 km per hour gusting to 90 km per hour can be expected.

A robust cold front will move across the south coast today. As it does, winds across the mouth of Howe Sound will rise to southeast 70 km/h gusting to 90. However, the winds will rapidly subside in the wake of the cold front this evening.

The agency warns that damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur and high winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. To report severe weather, email BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
