Squamish residents can expect traffic disruptions, noise and parking restrictions in some areas as the district begins work to upgrade and repair select water mains starting May 2024. The $2 million project is expected to run through the end of summer.

It will involve the improvement of fire flows to the Mamquam East industrial area on Mamquam Road, addressing a bottleneck in the system on Tantalus Road, addressing fire flow restrictions to the west on Government/Axen Road, and installation of PRV Chamber on Thunderbird Drive.

Residents in the affected areas will receive door notices before any disruption. The work is expected to impact traffic near each location due to excavation work and a possible single-lane alternating traffic change. In addition to traffic disruptions, residents can expect some noise from excavation and equipment, dust, and contractor vehicles.

Some street parking restrictions will also be in place during the work, some grass removal in the work area is also expected. During the tie-in to the existing system, some water disruption may also occur, though the district assures that everything will be done to minimize the impact on the residents.
