The Foyer Gallery at the Squamish Public Library is currently showcasing Karen Goodfellow‘s work in an exhibit titled “Totem, Trees & Torsos.” Running through July 9, this exhibition features a collection of mixed-media paintings and assemblages that explore Goodfellow’s journey back to her indigenous roots. Renowned local artist Toby Jaxon is the curator of the art project.
Goodfellow’s art combines indigenous sensibilities with eco-conscious artifacts, creating whimsical yet meaningful pieces. She describes her studio as a creative cauldron where discarded treasures transform into golden possibilities, inspired by her indigenous and Austrian heritage.
The Foyer Gallery at the library’s entrance offers a contemporary space for large wallworks and smaller pieces displayed in elegant glass cases. The library staff can help you purchase artwork, and artists in all disciplines are welcome to submit works for future juried exhibitions.
The exhibit invites viewers to reflect on our symbiotic relationship with Mother Earth and the importance of being stewards of the environment. Goodfellow’s prolific creativity is evident, even as she reveals the multitude of unfinished pieces and found objects that fill her studio.
Visit the Foyer Gallery at the Squamish Public Library before July 9 for more information or to purchase artwork.
