Squamish residents will have to wait longer than expected for the new depot collection site for residential packaging and paper. Initially slated to open on June 1, 2024, the new facility’s launch has been delayed due to operational challenges.

Squamish DOX, the team behind the new depot, said it is working diligently to address these issues and is committed to starting operations as soon as possible. In the interim, the existing GFL depot on Queens Way will continue to serve residents until June 14, 2024. This extension ensures uninterrupted recycling services for items such as glass, flexible plastics, foam, mixed containers, and paper—materials not accepted curbside.

Residents can also drop off flexible plastics and foam packaging at London Drugs in the Garibaldi Village Shopping Centre, albeit with a limit of one small bag per visit.

Additionally, the curbside and multi-family collection programs will continue to operate as usual, accepting most residential packaging and paper products, including newspapers, magazines, cardboard, steel and aluminum cans, rigid plastic containers, soup cartons, and paper beverage cups and lids.

For further recycling information, residents are encouraged to download the Recycle BC app or visit RecycleBC.ca. Recycle BC will provide ongoing updates to ensure a smooth transition to the new depot collection site and to maintain high service standards for the Squamish community.

Recycle BC said it appreciates the community’s dedication to recycling and patience during this transitional period.
