Woodfibre LNG has issued a rebuttal to a letter from the Squamish Chamber Executive Director, which claimed the company is ‘willfully misinterpreting’ its obligations to the community.
Sean Bardow, the director of communication and media planning, said the company has prioritized engaging with local businesses wherever possible. He said Woodfiblre LNG has worked extensively with several local businesses from Squamish and Squamish Nation.
“More than $4 million in goods and services have been purchased locally in the first quarter of 2024 alone,” Bardow told the Squamish Reporter.
He also said that Woodfibre LNG’s procurement practice is to prioritize opportunities for indigenous-owned or non-Indigenous businesses endorsed through the Squamish Nation business registry in alignment with the Impact Benefit Agreement with the Squamish Nation and with Condition 13 of the EAC. Many businesses in Squamish have signed up for the business registry and are engaged in the Project.
He said the company has provided a detailed response to Mackenzie’s letter that addresses her ‘incorrect assertions’ and demonstrates the company’s ongoing compliance with Condition 13 of the Environmental Assessment Certificate.
“We welcome further dialogue and discussion on how local businesses can continue to benefit and opportunities during future phases of work.”
David J Lassmann says
The attacks on this project seem to me to be disingenuous. I understand that there are some who are opposed to anything to do with natural gas but we have democratic processes that have been followed. It appears that some of lost the meaning of “free trade”. I see this as the kind of influence that made attempts at communism such a nightmare. All sorts of demands are being made that have nothing to do with making the operation a safe and productive operation. To quote a voice from the past: “The socialist hordes are at the door.”
