Tantalus Wellspring Society expands mental health support for youth

staff report
June 18, 2024 7:21am

Following the successful pilot program, the Tantalus Wellspring Society has announced reopening its intakes for a crucial mental health and wellness initiative to support youth and their families in the Sea to Sky region.

The Squamish-based registered charity, known for its commitment to making wellness accessible to all, is leveraging grants from the Whistler Health Care Foundation and the Squamish Community Foundation to provide subsidies for counselling services. These grants will enable children, youth, and their families to receive counselling from a therapist, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder access to mental health care.

The initiative underscores the importance of offering choices to those with limited financial means, empowering them to seek the help they need. The subsidies, paid directly to registered clinical counsellors, are determined by the client’s identified needs and follow the rates recommended by the BC Association of Clinical Counselors.

The Tantalus Wellspring Society emphasizes that youth flourish within a supportive environment, which is why their approach is youth-centred and inclusive of family and caregivers. This comprehensive support structure is part of society’s vision to provide preventative and responsive mental health and wellness support through the Collaboration Project and Empowerment and Choice – Counseling for Youth initiatives.
