A 51-year-old woman from Squamish was arrested and charged by the Pacific Region RCMP Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) on Friday, July 5, 2024, with terrorism-related offences.

Kimberly Polman faces the following charges:

One count under Section 83.181 of the Criminal Code

Leaving Canada to Participate in Activity of Terrorist Group – One count under Section 83.18 of the Criminal Code

Participation in Activity of Terrorist Group

These charges are the result of an ongoing criminal investigation into allegations that Polman travelled to Syria in 2015 to join ISIS and was repatriated to Canada in October 2022. She has been placed on a series of bail conditions and has been subject to a Terrorism Peace Bond since November 7, 2023.

“The success of this investigation is directly attributable to the work done by our dedicated investigators and the strength of our policing and intelligence partnerships. Along with our Canadian and International partners, the RCMP remains committed to combatting violent extremism both in Canada and abroad,” said Superintendent Jag Dhot of the Pacific Region RCMP Federal Policing INSET.

Polman will appear in Vancouver Provincial Court on Friday, August 2, 2024, for her next court appearance.
