Sea to Sky RCMP urges caution after multiple crashes on busy holiday weekend

staff report
September 4, 2024 3:28pm

The Sea to Sky RCMP urges all drivers to exercise caution on the Sea to Sky Highway following a series of traffic incidents over the recent long weekend. Due to heavy traffic flow in both directions, officers responded to multiple incidents between Squamish and Whistler, which resulted in significant delays and minor injuries.

“Long weekends typically bring an influx of travellers to our region, and this past weekend was no exception,” stated Sgt. Dallas Langley of the Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish. “We observed a substantial increase in traffic, which unfortunately led to several collisions, most of which could have been avoided.”

The Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish urges all drivers to prioritize road safety by adhering to speed limits, maintaining safe following distances, and avoiding distractions like mobile devices. Patience is essential, particularly when navigating the busy Sea to Sky Highway, which often experiences congestion during peak travel times.

“We’re thankful that no serious injuries occurred, but these incidents serve as a crucial reminder for everyone to remain vigilant and cautious while on the road,” added Sgt. Dallas Langley. “Your safety and the safety of others depend on it.”

The Sea to Sky RCMP will continue to monitor traffic conditions and enforce road safety measures across the region. Motorists are encouraged to plan routes, allow extra travel time, and prepare for possible delays. For more information on safe driving practices or to report dangerous driving, please get in touch with the Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish at (604) 892-6100.
