staff report
September 14, 2024 11:16am

A 26-year-old man, Jackson Doyle, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his father, Henry Doyle, who was found dead last year in a remote area of Sunshine Coast.

On September 23, 2023, the Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious death on Klein Lake Forest Service Road in Egmont. Officers arrived to find 58-year-old Henry Doyle with severe injuries. Despite emergency aid provided at the scene, he died from his wounds.

Following an investigation by the BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), the death was classified as suspicious. IHIT took charge of the case, working alongside the Sunshine Coast RCMP, BC Coroners Service, and Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS).

On September 13, 2024, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of first-degree murder against Jackson Doyle. He remains in custody, awaiting his first court appearance.

“IHIT’s investigative team has remained committed to this investigation over the past year,” said Cpl. Chase Smith of IHIT. “We thank the Sunshine Coast RCMP, Richmond RCMP, IFIS, Vancouver Police Department, and the Egmont community for their support throughout this investigation.”
