Squamish RCMP investigate as balaclava-wearing youth kick doors, damage property

staff report
January 22, 2025 7:14am

Local police are investigating incidents where youth are kicking homes and businesses and damaging property.

In a press release, Squamish RCMP said it had received several reports of balaclavas-wearing youth on e-bikes kicking doors, damaging property and disrupting peace in several neighbourhoods.

“These incidents are not only causing financial harm to property owners but are also creating fear and frustration within our community,” said S/Sgt. Gareth Bradley. “We take this behaviour very seriously and are working diligently to identify those involved.”

Several youths have been caught by police with the help of residents, and more action may follow as the investigations continue. Police remind parents and guardians to speak with their children about the consequences of such behaviour. While some may view it as a prank, the damage and distress caused can have serious repercussions.

Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police and to secure their properties, including ensuring doors and outdoor lighting are in good working condition.

If you have information about these incidents or can help identify those involved, please get in touch with Sea to Sky RCMP-Squamish at 604-892-6100.
