staff report
January 28, 2025 11:27am

A 21-year-old man from Richmond has died after going missing while snowboarding at Cypress Mountain Resort on January 24, 2025.

West Vancouver police said it received a report of the missing snowboarder at approximately 10:44 a.m. The man had been snowboarding with friends and was last seen on one of the resort’s runs. After an extensive search by the Cypress Mountain Ski Patrol and North Shore Rescue, the man was found in a gully near the “Collins Run” area of the resort.

“Life-saving actions were taken immediately but were not successful,” said Sgt. Chris Bigland of the West Vancouver Police Department. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police didn’t say when the body was recovered. The BC Coroners Service is investigating.
