Rainfall warning for Howe Sound

staff report
February 19, 2025 10:35am

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound, with 50 to 70 mm of rain expected by tonight.

The warning covers North Shore communities, including West Vancouver and North Vancouver, as well as northeast Metro Vancouver, affecting Coquitlam and Maple Ridge. Heavy rain will persist throughout the day and overnight before tapering off as the system weakens and moves inland. Scattered showers are forecast to continue into Thursday.

The active frontal system responsible for the downpour poses a risk of flash floods, water pooling on roads, and localized flooding in low-lying areas. Authorities also warn of potential washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay informed of weather updates.
