Tourism Squamish and the Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association have introduced Squamish’s first Umbrella Share Program. Launched in March this year, bright yellow umbrellas are available at ten key locations in Squamish, most of them downtown.

This free initiative allows people to borrow an umbrella, enjoy Squamish’s shops, restaurant and outdoor spaces, and return it to any designated stand when they’re done.

“We’re always looking for simple yet meaningful ways to enhance the visitor experience,” said Lesley Weeks, Executive Director of Tourism Squamish. “The Umbrella Share Program is part of our Find Your Element campaign, which encourages people to embrace the elements and enjoy Squamish in any weather – just like a local.”

The Umbrella Program is made possible through the support of local businesses that have generously agreed to host umbrella stands. Participating companies include Howe Sound Brew Pub, Arrowwood Games, Green Olive Market and Cafe, with more businesses joining soon.

Umbrellas are available at the following locations:

Squamish Adventure Centre

Green Olive Market & Cafe

August Jack Hotel

Howe Sound Brewery

Sunflower Bakery

Arrowwood Games

Gather Bookshop

Noble House

The Broken Seal

Empire of Dirt

“The Umbrella Share Program is a great example of how we can collaborate to create a welcoming and engaging downtown experience, rain or shine,” said Kerry Neil, Executive Director at the DSBIA. “It’s a small but meaningful step in making Squamish more accessible and enjoyable in all seasons.”

The program will be monitored and adjusted based on demand with the potential to expand to additional locations beyond downtown in the future. People who use the umbrellas are encouraged to return them after use so they remain available for others to enjoy.
