Squamish Splash Park delayed for two years

The Splash Park that was supposed to open this year has been delayed for two years. It will now open in 2027.

“As the Field House is intended to house the mechanical equipment for the Splash Park, these projects must proceed together,” District staff note in an update to the council. “The next step in the design process is to procure a team of consulting engineers and an architect to move the project forward concurrently. Unknowns include the required servicing to support both projects, including potential electrical upgrades.”

The splash park has a budget of $2 million and will be built northwest of the existing pool location. The district first announced its intention to create a splash park in 2020, aiming to build it within five years. According to a district public engagement survey, there is significant interest in the splash park. There were 915 survey responses to the splash park and playground public survey in February 2024.

According to the survey, interest in having a splash park is stronger than having a playground, with 87% prioritizing a splash park over a playground. Diverse community members also spoke to the need for the park, including 140 people who said their child has a disability or is neurodiverse, and water can be calming.
