Drivers asked not to stop on highway to view Squamish wildfire

Squamish Fire Rescue is responding to a wildfire burning just east of Highway 99 between Dowad Drive and Depot Road. Officials are asking motorists not to stop on the highway to view the fire, warning that doing so poses significant safety risks.

“We are asking motorists to avoid stopping on the highway to view the fire, as this poses other significant risks,” Squamish Fire Rescue says in a social media post.

Crews are actively working to extinguish the blaze, and the BC Wildfire Service has been called in to assist. The fire, identified as Fire Number V30558, was discovered earlier today and remains classified as “Out of Control.” It is estimated at 0.009 hectares.

The wildfire is burning near the Skyridge development and is under investigation. Drivers are urged to avoid the area. For ongoing updates, visit the BC Wildfire Service website.
