The District of Squamish has issued an Evacuation Alert for specific areas as a precautionary measure following a request from the BC Wildfire Service.

The alerts affect properties at the east end of Depot Road, east of Highway 99, including the campground, and those at the end of Tantalus Road. While no evacuation orders are being issued, officials are warning residents that an evacuation may be required if conditions change.

As of the latest update at 10:15 p.m., the Dryden Creek fire, located above the eastern end of Depot Road, continues to burn at five hectares and is still classified as Out of Control.  The BC Wildfire Service has been actively fighting the fire with both aerial and ground staff and will resume early this morning.

The District said its response team is currently operating from the Emergency Operations Centre to coordinate activities related to the fire response. In a critical safety note, residents are cautioned against flying drones in the vicinity of the fire. Fire crews have reported that unauthorized drone activity can interfere with firefighting efforts and create significant challenges for air crews.

The district said it will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
