A 21-year-old Burnaby man has lost his BMW M3 for seven days and received a $483 ticket after being caught by B.C. Highway Patrol stopped him while driving 194 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the Sea-to-Sky Highway late Thursday night.
A Highway Patrol officer on a BMW R1200 motorcycle pulled over the blue coupe just before 11 p.m. on July 17 near Lions Bay. The driver was cited for excessive speed under Section 148(1) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, which carries a mandatory vehicle impound when a motorist exceeds the limit by more than 60 km/h.
He is also responsible for towing, storage, and any additional ICBC licensing or insurance penalties.
“There have been far too many highway fatalities in recent weeks, and speed is almost always a factor,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of B.C. Highway Patrol. “We would much rather issue a ticket and impound a car than have to tell someone’s family that their loved one isn’t coming home.”
Police say speed enforcement will remain a priority on Highway 99, especially during the busy summer travel period.

That penalty is nothing, but a slap on the wrist

Dudes 21, probably had a license for 5 years. I say take him off the road for the next 5, give him plenty to think about. Sieze the car, sell it at auction (he can buy it back if he wants) and donate the proceeds to the SPCA or paramedic service, or just have a big fireworks display in his honor- who cares.
There is no excuse for being 100+ over the limit on the s2s, it’s no accident you’re just not a suitable candidate for driving priveliges.
