FortisBC begins trenchless pipeline installation under CN Rail

staff report
August 17, 2025 9:54am

FortisBC has started installing a section of its new natural gas pipeline beneath the CN Rail tracks in the business park. The company completed its initial preparatory work by August 15 on private property near Industrial Way and Queens Way, and the installation phase has now started.

In an update, FortisBC said it will use a trenchless method (employing an auger boring machine) to bore the pipeline under the tracks. The work is expected to take about eight weeks. Starting the week of August 18, nearby residents and businesses may notice increased activity between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The company clarified that this project is separate from the new pipeline planned along Industrial Way and Finch Drive, which is slated to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. FortisBC added that it has contacted local businesses and residents to keep them informed and will continue to provide updates as construction progresses.
