The Squamish Valley Forest Service Road (FSR) is temporarily closed at the 21-kilometre mark after a major washout on August 6 removed the road crossing at Mud Creek, also known as Turbid Creek. According to a community notice from Squamish Nation, the damage is extensive and repairs will be complex and costly.
A restricted, temporary crossing was installed on August 20 for industrial and commercial users. The structure is short-term and expected to last only several weeks at most. “The crossing may be removed or access may be barricaded at any time if it is determined that continued use poses an unacceptable safety or environmental risk,” Squamish Nation said.
Squamish Nation staff and Squamish Forestry are working together and engaging with the Ministry of Forests to secure support for repair, design, and funding of a long-term solution. They also acknowledged the impacts to community members, workers, and visitors, and said updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
For urgent questions, contact Eric Baker at Eric_Baker@squamish.net or 604-346-8098. The closure will remain in effect until the crossing can be safely rebuilt.
