Squamish residents now have a new way to stay active and connect with their community. A free, timed 5-kilometre parkrun has launched on the Mamquam Spawning Trail, part of the global parkrun network held in more than 2,200 locations across 22 countries.

The event takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m., starting on the trail beside the golf course and the Mamquam River. The route is a double loop on gravel paths, shaded by trees and running alongside the water. Open to all ages and abilities, the parkrun welcomes runners, walkers, strollers, and leashed dogs. Organizers say the focus is on inclusion rather than competition.

“parkrun is about creating a welcoming, social way for people to get outside and move at their own pace,” said Event Director Cerian Lewis in a press release. “It doesn’t matter if you run, jog, or walk—the focus is on participation and community.”

The Mamquam Spawning Trail parkrun is organized by local volunteers and led by Lewis, along with Mel Whitley, Kathleen Grace, and Ben Sales. After each run, participants are invited to gather for coffee at Cloudburst Café.

Organizers are asking participants to park at Canadian Tire rather than the trailhead or golf course. Registration is free and only required once. Each registrant receives a barcode that can be used at parkruns worldwide.
