Man drowns at Porteau Cove

Emergency crews responded to a drowning at Porteau Cove on August 31.

A man has died after going missing in the water at Porteau Cove on Sunday, August 31.

Squamish RCMP said they received a report at about 5:18 p.m. of a male in distress. With help from Marine Search and Rescue, the Coast Guard, EHS, and Lions Bay Fire Rescue, the individual was later located and confirmed dead.

“The Squamish RCMP extend condolences to the families and friends impacted by these tragedies,” the police said in a statement. The incident remains under investigation.

Fatal collision on Highway 99

On Monday, September 1, at about 9:37 p.m., police and emergency responders attended a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on Highway 99.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released further details, and the investigation is ongoing.
