More than $3.7 million in federal funding has supported five infrastructure projects in Squamish, aimed at improving active and public transportation as well as recreation facilities. The funding came through the Canada Community-Building Fund.
According to the District of Squamish, four of the projects were completed in 2023 and 2024. They included 790 metres of new multi-use path, nine street lights, four pedestrian crosswalks, and new sidewalks along Perth Drive. Transit access improvements were also made at several locations, including Government Road, Loggers Lane, Garibaldi Avenue, and Tantalus Avenue.

A fifth project, now underway, focuses on the Brennan Park Recreation Centre. Upgrades will include lobby and mezzanine renovations, elevator access to the upper level, and new ice rink mechanical units designed to reduce energy use and emissions. The recreation centre will receive $1.14 million of the funding.
“Investments like these make it easier and safer for people in Squamish to get where they need to go,” said Patrick Weiler, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country.
District of Squamish Mayor Armand Hurford said the upgrades reflect the community’s goal of building safer, more accessible infrastructure. “We are grateful to the Government of Canada for their continued partnership and support through the Canada Community-Building Fund,” Hurford said.
The Canada Community-Building Fund is administered in British Columbia by the Union of BC Municipalities and provides stable, long-term funding for local infrastructure projects.
