Squamish Community Christmas Care has announced in a recent article that applications are now open for its annual holiday hamper program, which has supported local residents for more than 40 years. The program provides food and gifts for children to families and individuals in need during the Christmas season.

Last year, more than 1,000 people received hampers, including families with children and seniors. Applications are now available, with a submission deadline of Friday, November 14.

Forms can be picked up and dropped off at Sea to Sky Community Services, PearlSpace, Under One Roof and local churches. Printable forms are also available online. For assistance with applications, residents can contact squamishchristmas@gmail.com, the article says.

“We hope that the hampers of food, toys (for children) and other good things are both a practical help for those who receive them, but also a sign of being remembered and cared for by their neighbours in Squamish,” the organisation stated.

The group is also seeking volunteers, donors and toy contributions. New, unwrapped toys may be dropped off at designated community locations. Businesses and organizations are encouraged to host donation drives or fundraising events and are asked to register through Christmas Care if they do so.

“As the chair of Squamish Community Christmas Care, it is an honour to carry on this Squamish tradition and work with amazing people,” the chair said. “It is only working together that we can truly be community caring for community.”
