Commuters and residents in Squamish should prepare for significant traffic disruptions starting in January 2026, as FortisBC begins construction on a major gas pipeline along Finch Drive and Industrial Way.
According to a notice from FortisBC, single-lane alternating traffic will begin on January 5, followed by a full closure of Finch Drive between Loggers Lane and Highway 99 starting January 12. The closure is expected to remain in place until late 2026, when construction in the area is scheduled for completion.
Detours will be set up through Highway 99 and Loggers Lane, with signage and traffic control personnel on site to help drivers navigate the changes. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and allow additional time for their commutes during the construction period.
Access to the Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment will continue via a temporary entrance from Highway 99, located near the existing access point. The entrance will be open to both emergency responders and the public throughout the construction period.
In a statement, FortisBC said it has reached out to nearby businesses, residents, and stakeholders to inform them about expected traffic disruptions and increased noise levels. The utility added that it remains committed to providing ongoing updates as work progresses on the Eagle Mountain–Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project.
