BC Parks has closed the main hiking trail at the Stawamus Chief following a rockfall that has significantly damaged the route, the agency says.

The rockfall occurred on the section of trail below the Sea to Summit junction, where debris has impacted the hiking corridor. Closure signage and barricades have been installed at the trailhead kiosk, and the public is being asked to stay out of the area.
There is no estimated timeline for when the trail will reopen.
The closure also affects access to the Sea to Summit Trail via the Stawamus Chief main trail. However, hikers can still reach the Sea to Summit by using the Climb (Skatshn) trail, which is accessed from the Sea to Sky Gondola.
BC Parks cautions that winter conditions, including snow and ice, are making The Climb particularly challenging. Hikers are advised to use appropriate footwear and equipment and to be prepared for difficult conditions.
BC Parks will provide updates as more information becomes available.
