The Squamish Historical Society is marking its 20th anniversary by relaunching its SHS Squamish Speakers Series, set to begin on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

The series, held in partnership with the Squamish Legion, will continue on the third Wednesday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Attendance is free or by donation. The venue, Squamish Legion 227, is located at 40194 Glenalder Place, Garibaldi Estates.

The inaugural talk will feature citizen journalist and blogger Masha Kleiner, who conducted research for the documentary Making a Killing: Reconciliation, Genocide, and Plunder in Canada. According to organizers, Kleiner will discuss “Decolonization,” examining how language and symbolic gestures influence policy and evolve into structural change with legal, social, and economic consequences.

“The past 20 years have seen a lot of change in such a relatively short period of time. Our speakers series has always been a high point in our mission to showcase our community’s history,” said Bianca Peters, president and founder of the Squamish Historical Society. “It’s an opportunity to put away your cell phone and listen to local storytellers with expertise in their fields, face to face.”
