Residents in Squamish now have more transit options, as additional service hours were added to key local routes, according to the B.C. government.
The expansion, which began on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, increases frequency on Route 1 Brackendale and Route 2 Highlands. Weekday trips were added to Route 1 Brackendale, with one late-evening trip on Sundays, while Route 2 Highlands now sees more trips during the week and an additional Sunday evening trip, as noted by BC Transit.
“People in Squamish now have more transit options on the Brackendale and Highlands routes,” said George Anderson, parliamentary secretary for transit. “By adding service hours on those routes, we’re making it easier for people to connect with their communities and access the services they rely on,” according to Anderson.
The service expansion is part of a broader effort by BC Transit and the B.C. government, in partnership with the District of Squamish, to strengthen connections and support increasing ridership across the province. These investments, backed by ongoing support from the Ministry of Transportation and Transit, aim to ensure public transportation remains dependable outside Metro Vancouver.
Since 2017, the ministry has increased BC Transit’s provincial operating grant by about 70%, supporting transit service levels throughout British Columbia and enabling continued expansion of services that benefit communities like Squamish, according to the government.
