A lone snowboarder has died after being caught in an avalanche in a remote alpine area near Pemberton.

Sea to Sky RCMP said they were notified on February 24, 2026, of an avalanche involving a snowboarder on Anniversary Glacier near Mount Joffre and Mount Matier.

General duty officers from the Pemberton RCMP detachment and Pemberton Search and Rescue responded to the scene. Police said the avalanche was classified as size 3.5 and travelled approximately 1,500 metres.

Search teams located and recovered the body of a deceased male. Police said no further information will be released out of respect for the family.
