District of Squamish council will consider amending the Garibaldi Springs Land Development Agreement with Polygon Homes at its March 3 meeting, after the planned Community “Hub” Park missed its completion deadline.

The change would tie the completion of the planned park and trail network to the next phase of the Garibaldi Springs development rather than a fixed calendar date.

District staff say in the report, that construction scheduling constraints, legal agreements with the Executive Suites Hotel and the design and approval of a public washroom delayed parks delivery. Staff say the amended agreement would allow development of the park, including public washroom and public trails, to align more with the developers phased approach.

If council does not approve the amendment, staff warn that construction of the public washroom and completion of the park could be further delayed.

The Garibaldi Springs site, formerly a golf course, was rezoned in 2018. The development includes voluntary community amenities secured through the LDA, including 18 affordable rental units, more than $3 million in cash contributions, new parking on Tantalus Road and funding toward future transportation upgrades.

Once the park is completed and dedicated, the developer will pay the District an annual maintenance contribution of $120,967 to support upkeep of the park, trails, washroom and habitat restoration areas.

A building permit for the washroom was issued in January 2026, and construction is expected to begin soon.
