As Squamish continues to grow, so does the need for local businesses that give back to the community they call home. Base Electric is doing both.
The Squamish electrical company is supporting the Squamish Skateboard Association’s vision to bring the first covered skatepark to the Squamish Oceanfront, helping create a year-round space for local youth and families. At the same time, the company continues to provide trusted residential and commercial electrical services for homeowners, builders and businesses throughout Squamish, Whistler and the wider Sea to Sky corridor.
That local commitment starts with founder Kane Gray, who has lived in the corridor for more than 20 years. Kane previously served nearly a decade with the Squamish Volunteer Fire Department and also spent years with Squamish Search and Rescue, helping neighbours when they needed it most.

It’s the same community-first mindset that has helped Base Electric earn a strong reputation over the past 10 years for quality workmanship, dependable service and practical solutions.
Before launching his own company, Kane worked with multiple electrical firms and became known for his attention to detail and reliability. Originally from New Zealand, he is a registered electrical contractor in both Canada and New Zealand, bringing international experience and a broad perspective to the trade.
What began as a plan to spend one winter in Whistler turned into two decades of life in the Sea to Sky region. The name Base Electric was inspired by Kane’s background in BASE jumping and his time consulting on major television commercials, including a memorable jump from the Peak 2 Peak gondola at Whistler Blackcomb.
Today, Kane and his team of qualified electricians and apprentices proudly serve the region they call home, with projects stretching from West Vancouver to D’Arcy.
The Squamish Electrician for Sea to Sky homes and businesses
Living in the corridor means properties often need more from their electrical systems. Families expand, secondary suites are added, and homes are upgraded to handle growing needs. Businesses renovate, move into new spaces or need fast, dependable maintenance to keep operations running smoothly.
Base Electric has grown by helping clients through exactly those moments.
For homeowners, the company handles everything from new home electrical installations and renovations to service upgrades, lighting design and custom electrical planning. They also work on accessory dwelling units, detached garages and workshops, helping owners create spaces that are practical today and ready for tomorrow.
As more people invest in comfort and convenience, Base Electric has also become a go-to name for hot tub wiring, sauna installations, home automation systems, solar power and off-grid electrical solutions. In a region where indoor comfort and outdoor living go hand in hand, those services are increasingly in demand.
The company is also seeing strong demand for EV charger installation in Squamish and the Sea to Sky corridor. With increasing electric vehicle ownership across British Columbia, many homeowners are seeking Level 2 home chargers, while developers are planning long-term charging infrastructure.
Base Electric helps simplify that process through charger installations, panel assessments, electrical upgrades, BC Hydro design work and energy audits required for multi-unit buildings. For many strata corporations, navigating EV charging can feel complicated, and working with an experienced local electrician can make all the difference.
Commercial clients rely on the company for new builds, tenant improvements, renovations, maintenance, service calls, permitting support and electrical safety reports. From retail shops and restaurants to offices, farms and industrial sites, Base Electric understands that dependable electrical systems are essential to day-to-day business.
That work is already visible throughout the region. Base Electric has contributed to projects including Brackendale Art Gallery, Hop Creek Farms, House of Lager, Peaked Pets, Freshii and Billie’s Boutique, along with many other residential and commercial projects along the corridor.
Squamish Electrical Company is built around the family
Base Electric’s roots in the Sea to Sky corridor extend beyond the workplace.
Kane and his wife Jessie are raising five children while balancing family life and business ownership. Several of their children compete at provincial and national levels in slopestyle snowboarding, reflecting the active mountain lifestyle that draws so many families to the region.

For Base Electric, supporting the community is not a marketing line. It is part of daily life, from volunteering and youth recreation projects to helping local homeowners and businesses grow with confidence.
Powering what comes next
From West Vancouver to D’Arcy, Base Electric has become a trusted name across the corridor. Whether you are a general contractor looking for a design partner, a strata manager needing an energy audit, or a homeowner ready to upgrade your service for a new EV charger, Kane and his team bring decades of experience and a local-first approach.
