Emergency crews responded to Alta Lake near Rainbow Park on Sunday afternoon, June 21, after human remains were discovered in the water just before 3:30 p.m.

Sea to Sky RCMP’s Whistler Detachment was notified of the discovery and quickly coordinated a multi-agency response. Whistler Fire Services, the BC Conservation Officer Service, and the Whistler Sailing Association all assisted police in recovering the remains.

No information about the identity of the individual has been released yet. Corporal Katrina Boehmer, Media Relations Officer for Sea to Sky RCMP, said those details will remain confidential while the BC Coroner Service carries out its investigation.

“We recognize that several individuals may have witnessed this incident, and we want them to know they are welcome to contact our RCMP Victim Services team if they have been affected in any way and feel they would benefit from support,” said Boehmer.

Anyone with questions or concerns can contact Sea to Sky RCMP (Whistler Detachment) at 604-932-3044.
