Environment Canada has issued a yellow heat warning for Squamish, with daytime highs expected to reach 31 C this week amid smoky skies.
According to the weather forecast, temperatures are forecast to hit 31 C on both Tuesday and Wednesday, before easing to 27 C on Thursday and settling into the low-to-mid 20s through the weekend. Overnight lows are expected to range from 14 C to 16 C over the same period.
Skies are forecast to be sunny to mainly sunny through midweek, according to the news release, with local smoke affecting the region Monday and becoming hazy by Tuesday afternoon. A mix of sun and cloud is expected Wednesday through Saturday, with a 30 percent chance of showers forecast for Sunday.
The UV index is expected to reach 8, or “very high,” on Tuesday, according to the forecast. Winds are forecast to shift from north to south through the week, with gusts of up to 40 km/h over southern sections early Monday morning.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, conditions at Squamish Airport showed a temperature of 24.2 C, humidity at 48 percent, and falling pressure. The seasonal normal for this time of year is a high of 21 C and a low of 11 C.
