When Squamish marked 100 years, the District of Squamish created a special celebration webpage and included the names of every mayor, reeve and chairperson dating back to when a formal leadership body for Squamish was created in 1948.
I soaked up the info and wished the list included the aldermen and councillors.
A few years later I went looking for the information and found it just didn’t exist in one place.
Hoping, wishing and manifesting the notion that someone would produce the full list of elected officials wasn’t producing the result I was looking for and in 2024 I concluded that if I didn’t take on assembling the list it wasn’t going to happen. The task proved to be way tougher than I expected and it took me about two years to get together a list that I felt I could share out. The sources I used included the District of Squamish website, Squamish library digital newspaper archives from the Advance, Squamish Review, The Times, The Chief, CivicInfo BC and former mayor Corinne Lonsdale (the best of all my resources with her collection of documents and her sharp memory with valuable context).
While I continue with further due diligence between the years 1948 and 1987, I’m confident the information I’ve gathered from ‘86 to present is accurate. If you spot an error or have context for any of the details in the list please let me know. My contact information is included below.

John French chronicled the history of Squamish as a journalist at Mountain FM from 1990 to 2002 then again from 2014 to 2016, with The Squamish Chief from 2003 to 2005 and during a stint also with Pique Newsmagazine from 2011 to 2013.
