The District of Squamish has closed a portion of Bailey Street to unauthorized vehicle access due to escalating wildfire risk to the community.

According to the District of Squamish’s news release, unauthorized vehicle access to the estuary via Bailey Street will be closed, with the closure area delineated on a map provided by the district. All vehicles currently within the closure area are being asked to leave the unpaved portion of Bailey Street immediately, and barriers will be installed within the next 24 hours.

The road closure is part of the District of Squamish’s ongoing response to wildfire risk and the declared provincial state of emergency. The most recent danger class rating for Squamish from the BC Wildfire Service is high.

According to the news release, the closure follows recent bans by the Province of BC and the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District on off-road vehicles in most fire centre areas.
