The District of Squamish is moving ahead with construction of a new neighbourhood park in Ravenswood, with work expected to take roughly a month during October and November.
A small subscription keeps the Squamish Reporter going.
The project will activate the north end of the park while keeping the south end as open grass for informal play. Planned work includes drainage improvements, a gravel pathway into the centre of the park, nature play areas built with donated cedar logs and boulders, and new native trees, shrubs and a pollinator meadow supported through the Squamish Environmental Reserve Fund, the district says.
A custom oversized picnic table, built in partnership with OurSquamish and the Men’s Shed, will anchor a central gathering space.
Once construction wraps, the new area will stay closed through the winter so plantings can establish, with fencing scheduled to come down in spring 2027.
The $100,000 project, funded through Community Amenity Contributions, follows a spring survey that drew 119 responses, most from people living in or near Ravenswood. Children under 12 were identified as the primary park users, and nature play ranked as the top desired feature, according to the District’s What We Heard report. Drainage fixes were flagged as a key need.
The District has also released a long-term vision for the park, though no municipal funding has been identified for future amenities; it could be supported later through fundraising, grants, sponsorships, or donations.
