Squamish Canada Day Community Celebration was exactly that, a community celebration.
With very few funds, it was challenging organizing such a huge event but many people stepped forward to help. We were able to celebrate Canada’s birthday Squamish style, thanks to the amazing people here who donated their time, talent, and products.
The major sponsors for the event were Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association, District of Squamish, Churchill Property Corporation, and Heritage Canada. The Royal Canadian Legion coordinated the Canada Day March and Ceremony, reminding us all what the celebration really was about. Squamish Chamber of Commerce arranged for the wonderful Canada Day Cupcakes.
Squamish FM did an excellent job programming the stage for the entire day, showcasing a wide range of the talent here in Squamish. Hotspot/Common Ground kept the family fun area buzzing with excitement with a great selection of activities.
Howe Sound Brewing provided the local beer and organized the beer garden. Loggers Sports, Sea to Sky Canines, Squamish Classics, Visuals, Squamish Arts Council, and Squamish CAN entertained everyone with their performances and displays.
The market and food fair, organized by Newport Market, were great, and thanks to Shone and the wonderful musicians, we had music in the market. Michael was kept busy with floorball all day and the Hacketts didn’t stop face painting. Hevy Huups had everyone spinning during the day then put on a fantastic fire show in the evening.
Kris Keyes outdid himself with the grand finale fireworks. Not only am I proud to be Canadian, I am proud to be a part of such a great community such as Squamish. Photos of the celebration can be found on www.double-shutter.com/

Yes it was great. Enjoyed the Japanese dancing …then had to run off to do another Tai Chi demo at the Multicultural Celebration at Totem Hall. Good to hear next year the two events will be merged and all in one place. Getting better all the time!
