Community Policing Office Reopens

RCMP’s community policing coordinator Kathryn Heninger at the newly opened office.

The Community Policing Office in downtown Squamish was reopened on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

The community policing office ad been closed for renovation since November 2010.

Sgt. Wayne Pride of Squamish RCMP said the office is staffed by the Community Policing Coordinator Kathryn Hennigar and specially trained volunteers.

The office is the hub for Block Watch, Business Link, Speed Watch, Crime Stoppers and numerous other programs.

It is a shared facility with District of Squamish bylaw officer; the public can drop by to pay a fine or arrange to speak with a Bylaw officer.

The office will be opened from Tuesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The public can obtain information on various crime prevention related topics, report a crime or suspicious activity, get assistance in setting up a neighbourhood watch program or obtain a criminal record check.

Applications are also currently being accepted for volunteer positions at the office.

    Thank you to the Council and the RCMP for taking the necessary steps to ensure the downtown has another crime fighting tool to enable a safer community.
