Stolen Kayaks Recovered Off Craigslist

August 14, 2013 7:32am

Stolen Kayaks recovered off Craigslist

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, RCMP recovered two kayaks that were stolen from a Valleycliffe residence. The kayaks had been stolen about a year ago, and were being recently advertised on Craigslist.

Police traced the ad to a 34-year-old local resident and he was detained and questioned.

The man claimed he had bought the kayaks from some other individual last year. The man wasn’t too cooperative with the police.

The police returned the kayaks to their rightful owner, while police consider a charge of possession of stolen property for the man whole stole them.

Couple threatened with knife

On Friday, Aug. 9, at approx. 11:30 pm, police responded to a report of two males threatening a couple with a knife near Fourth and Victoria St in downtown Squamish.

Officers arrested the two males a short distance from where the incident occurred.

The two suspects are Squamish residents, two youth well known to local police, 15 and 16 years of age.

The incident was not random, police note.

It stemmed from an ongoing neighbourhood dispute, but in this case, the verbal altercation escalated with one male pulling out a knife.

No injuries were sustained by anyone involved.

Sailboat capsizes

On Aug. 10, the local RCMP was notified that a 30′ sailboat appeared to be beached just off of Nexen beach and was listing heavily.

When officers arrived the vessel was largely submerged. The owner was located and he said he had become disoriented the previous evening while attempting to return to the marina and beached his boat.

The owner, a Squamish resident, has made arrangements to get the boat removed from the area. No environmental concerns were evident in this incident and no injuries were sustained.

Theft from Vehicles

On Aug. 9, police received a report of a vehicle being broken into while parked during the day at the Garibaldi Park parking lot. Luggage, jewelry, an iPod, iPad and some cash was stolen.

The driver’s side window was smashed to gain entry.

The same day, police responded to a vehicle being broken into while parked at the Cat Lake parking lot overnight.

The front driver’s side window was smashed and an iPod and a wallet were stolen.

No major incidents at Live at Squamish concert

In other police briefs, RCMP notes that the Squamish Valley Music Festival was well attended and passed off without any major problems.

The police said numerous individuals were arrested for public intoxication and there were some drug related medical incidents, but in general, the event passed off quite smoothly.

It was a fun crowd, RCMP notes.

    Nexen. Not Nexan

I’m surprised you get up-to-date information. I had my house broken into at the end of June. Asked for a written report for insurance July 18th – was told it would take 5 business days. It has been a month almost and still no report. The RCMP tell me they are too short staffed – at least to help me get money back. They have lots of staff sitting on the highway taking our money all day, everyday.

They only take your money on the highway when you are breaking the law, much like the people that broke into your house.
