Keep the Community Spirit

One of the best things about a small town, is that you meet many people and belong to a diverse community. On the other side of that coin, conflicts or disagreements divide the community rapidly.

Just like the recent World Cup, sides are supported and outcomes are predicted, regardless of the obvious forecasting.

The commentary is colourful and entertaining. Supporters on both sides jump up and down and cheer when points are scored. Division grows as the struggle progresses, both sides refusing to concede defeat.

Fouls are cried when unfair tactics are used, but both employee them, and past records and outcomes are stated to predict the current conflict.

But unlike the beautiful game, ours is the future of our community. Sometimes those close neighbours will no longer talk or look each other in the eye. Both believeing there is only one result.

And unlike the World Cup, there wont be another chance four years from now.

This is a once in a life time decision, which will impact the community for decades.

Do we do, whats best for the community as a whole and not for ourselves.

Do we impose our worldly philosphies, or focus on the great good of our town.

A diverse economy that provides opportunites for all members of our town is needed.

Because if we continue to raise taxes, costs, limit afforable housing, and not attact investment.

Squamish will become an elitist town, and many will need to move where the jobs are available.

This is an unfortunate fact and predictable result.

Just like Germany winning the cup;)
