Coun. Patricia Heintzman announced today she will run for the Mayor of Squamish, more than a week after she announced her decision to step away from local politics.

Heintzman said she was “bombarded” with requests by people to reconsider her decision to not seek a council seat.

“I have been bombarded with people encouraging me to run again,” she said in a brief phone call.

Heintzman has been a councillor for nine years and has served on the SLRD board for six years.

Now that’s the oldest trick in the book. No No I don’t want it , but please chase me and twist my arm.

I filled my papers this morning and there was only Ron and Ron for mayor
I was shocked to hear . I know it was a very hard discussion for Patricia . Its a big job , I know patty is a team builder. she is smart and loves this community so good luck to her

Being mayor is not a easy cushy job in Squamish. I think Patricia got bombarded with requests to reconsider for good reason. A lot of people like the way she has represented the community over the years.

A definite better alternative option compared to Auli.. At least we know for the most part about Patty. Auli on the other hand is all about talk talk talk. However this town doesn’t need a left leaning, anti business mayor. The devil we know and the devil we don’t know.

“left leaning, anti business” Ai;o” Jp you just pull that out of your rear end?? I think a lot of people will be shocked by the rapid changes in Squamish but mostly by how much diversified business a progressive council will bring. Remember the Mr. Roger’s remix; you can grow ideas in the garden of your mind.

Re: growing ideas in the garden of your mind- I must say, in my opinion , Auli has a lot of fertilizer there.

We don’t need more fence sitters. we need to know where they stand before choosing at election. they need confidence. maybe she’s playing the game, we don’t need professional politicians but some experience in council is better than none before running for mayor.

It would be nice if one decision maker were running. I don’t see even one. Heintzman seems to always have committees and even committees which report to committees. The town needs a leader.

Useless councillor, will make a useless mayor…

I would be concerned if I had Douglas Day backing me. Doug is just pouting because he doesn’t get his way with council. I also think Doug is in no position to comment on ethical business behavior.

      Dear JP
When I takes shots at people I have the balls and integrity
      to identify myself
You on the other hand take shots from a foxhole with a face mask on
Identify yourself and lets have a serious debate
Do you have some trouble with my beautiful Ravens Plateau,
University Heights and Garibaldi Springs projects???
All paid for in full on time to hundreds of excellent
      Squamish trades people and suppliers
we have worked with since we arrived here
      12 years ago
I have flawlessly delivered some 60 new homes to families here
      without issue.
As for City Council, in 12 years I only had one deal
      come before them
That was the gift of 105 Acres of my beautiful
Garibaldi Springs Estate to the people of Squamish
      for a wonderful Park
They declined my offer and have been trying to figure
out how to get those lands for Park ever
      since
      With respect

    Dear DW
Firstly what is it about you and others that
    you fear to indentify yourselves?
Instead, you take pot shots at people. while
    you hide behind a mask
Regards your post above on Patricia
Heintzman you are way out of line
    whoever you are
Identify yourself and let’s have a real debate!

What is the real reason you supported Auli last time? It just seems odd that a staunch capitalist such as yourself would support a brazen nutjob socialist?

      • Douglas Day says

        October 12, 2014 at 1:29 pm

Dear Jon S or whoever you really are.
Come on out and have the balls to identify yourself, then I will debate you.
I will not longer debate phantoms like you who hide behind masks.
This is not an Opera – this is the real thing here.
Express yourself and your opinions openly
What are you so afaid of?

In regards to Ms Heintzman’s qualities and experience as a business person I remember some of her start-up initiatives of perhaps 12 years ago. They were exciting, well run and professional. The only negative was that she was ahead of her time.

But now, clearly times have changed and Patty’s understanding of the emerging Squamish economy and it’s potential, are very much in sync. She will make an excellent Mayor for our times!

  14. Wolfgang W says

If one cares to look, Patricia has both shown leadership and courage in the past, has an ear and feel for community concerns, is not afraid to take positions yet remains always pragmatic and approachable. What more does one expect of a community leader? She deserves to be the next Mayor of Squamish!

I very strongly concur with the comments made above by Jim and Wolfgang

PH comes over as a decent person but her twitter feed suggests yet another soft-left eco-NIMBY. I also note she voted for the skatebowl, which for me marked a low point in tossing out the rule book to pander to a fashionable cause. Can anyone offer some specific examples of things she has done that merit my vote?

C-h, Jon S, et al of like sentiment: So if you have left or any socialist leanings, you care about the Environment (a.k.a. “Eco”) or you express any polarized opinion about improving you specific local area (a.k.a, NIMBY) you are bad. But if you specifically care about making money (businessperson) you are good….right? Just so I understand. I really would like to get in the right position on the moral spectrum! Or perhaps it really doesn’t matter where you are.

Well Patty, I was almost ready to get behind you but pairing up with Auli? Looks like Kirkham for me.

  19. larry mclennan says

    October 15, 2014 at 10:08 am

Yes Kirkham’s better than a pit-lamped deer. Unfortunately, IMO the choice is between the evil of three lessers. Leadership is outside & staring through the window. Sort of like the barnyard animals at the end of Orwell’s The Animal Farm where the pigs and the humans both began to be indistinguishable from one another. I have a queasy feeling that none of these ones are going to fly. Prove me wrong Rob- pleeese.

    October 22, 2014 at 3:51 pm

…Saying she deserves to be mayor is like saying I deserve to win the lottery. She IS soft like a lot of people who are tentative at best, in making decisions before council that don’t rock the boat or have particular optics like having an LNG referendum that look good to the un-initiated among us…self promoting bombardment, after all the hands were played at the table only to come back & throw down, that’s the experience, albeit clever, that we refer to??
