Mixed-use building proposed for Downtown Squamish

May 14, 2019 5:26am

District of Squamish council will soon be looking at approving a new mixed-use building in Downtown Squamish.

The district has received a development permit application for a two-building mixed-use development on 37781 Cleveland Avenue.

The proposed development offers four residential units consisting of 45 per cent of the gross floor area.

The remaining 55 per cent is allocated to a diverse range of employment spaces, according to the information provided to the district.

Four residential and three commercial parking lots are being proposed, with seven commercial stalls paid out for $105,000 of cash-in-lieu.

The developer is proposing a ‘unique’ design on commercial ground space with a 5 metre high covered walkway through the front building.

This walkway or a ‘market alley’ will lead to the ground floor offices, the residential lobby and some employment space at the back.

It will animated with a ‘story-telling’ wall along the north end and lit with soffit strip lighting.

Other ‘funky and playful accents’ include a Lemon Grove balcony wells on both buildings, lemon grove guard rails, yellow graphic patterned asphalt and a wall mounted basketball hoop in the courtyard.

The applicant has agreed to upgrade both the laneway and Cleveland frontage from their South property line to Vancouver St.
