District is asking residents to be alert and aware of wolves on local trails.
The word of caution comes after wildlife cameras recently captured a wolf on the Ray Peters trail network.
Squamish is home to the Western Wolf, also known as the Timber Wolf or Grey Wolf. Wolves are apex predators, meaning they are at the top of the food chain and indicators of a healthy ecosystem.
“Please be alert and aware when out on the trails, keep dogs on leash and avoid surprise encounters by making noise with your voice,” district said.
Last year, district issued a Wildlife Alert due to coyote and wolf activity within the Ray Peters Trail network in Brackendale. Wolves have a large hunting ground therefore caution should be exercised at all entrance points and within the entire Ray Peters network.
