Chamber creates Facebook page to support gondola

August 13, 2019 5:17pm

The Squamish Chamber of Commerce is inviting the community to share photos, videos and posts about their favourite moment from the gondola on a new Facebook page.

You can share your favourite moment from the Sea to Sky Gondola at the Sea to Sky Gondola Moments Facebook group

“Over the last few days, we’ve received a huge amount of support – and shock – regarding the incident at the Sea to Sky Gondola.  We’d like to channel this energy into a positive momentum. Let’s celebrate the Sea to Sky Gondola, our community, our businesses and our people,” the chamber said.

You can also share the moments in #seatoskygondolalove #spiritofsquamish as well as share your other favourite #seatoskymoments and help spread the word about all the amazing things to do in Squamish.

Meanwhile, in an update, the Gondola management said it is contacting all of the private weddings and events that have been scheduled at the gondola.

“We are working to relocate as many as possible to other beautiful venues in the area. We appreciate all of the support from the Squamish community and the industry as a whole during this time. We are going to reopen as soon as possible.”

The company is also assessing the damage, and their initial estimate is that 18-20 of our 30 gondola cabins will need to be replaced along with the main cable. The management is working with Doppelmayr, itslift manufacturer, to determine timelines for equipment replacement.
