Video: Watch a chopper lifting broken Gondola cabins

September 10, 2019 12:17pm
The Sea to Sky Gondola management says the cabins have been removed along with the pieces of the damaged cables and the main cable has been secured.

It has shared a video update with the community that shows crews removing damaged gondola cabins and fixing the main cable line.

The connector trail from the base of the gondola to Shannon Falls and the Chief has been reopened. The upper trails including Sea to Summit, however, remain closed at this time.

The gondola base area including Basecamp Cafe, Guest Services and Retail is now open daily. However, the management reminds people that the team is continuing work under the gondola and the area is still considered a construction zone.

“We are still anticipating an early spring 2020 reopening and would like to thank everyone for their patience and support,” the gondola team said.

The management said it was grateful to its incredible Operations team, and partners at Rocky Mountain Lift Services, Doppelmayr and Black Tusk Helicopters. The team also thanked its friends at Whistler Blackcomb, Inter-Mtn Testing and Windfirm Tree Services for their assistance in the reconstruction.

Meanwhile, the delivery of the new main cable from Europe is expected in October and the cabins will follow.
