The Conservation Officer Service is issuing a wildlife update following multiple reports of aggressive coyote behaviour, particularly in the Brackendale neighbourhood.
It raised the potential for public safety risk, CO service said. The Conservation Officer 24-hour hotline number is 1-877-952-7277.
If you are a pet owner, please ensure they are kept indoors at night and keep dogs on leash. Small dogs and cats can be at risk to a coyote attack.
If you keep backyard hens, please ensure they are kept enclosed by electric fence. Chickens, eggs and chicken feed will attract wildlife into your yard.
If you are a parent, please talk to your children and teach them what to do if they encounter a coyote:
- Stay calm and back away slowly – do not run
- Be as big and loud as possible
- Maintain eye contact
- Make yourself appear larger by standing tall and raising your arms overhead
Please report any aggressive coyote behaviour to the 24-hour Conservation Officer RAPP line at 1.877.952.7277.
