The District of Squamish plans to build a temporary fire hall in Valleycliffe at the intersection of Guildford and Clark Drive as work continues on the design and construction of a new fire hall.
“The existing Valleycliffe Fire Hall will need to be demolished in order to build the new fire hall on the same site. As fire response is still required a temporary fire hall is required. An alternate site at the intersection of Guilford Drive and Clarke Drive has been selected,” staff told council in a report.
This Tuesday, staff is asking council to endorse the Valleycliffe Fire Hall replacement project design, which will also function as an administrative office and an emergency operations centre.
The preliminary calculation suggests the total area of 18,000 square feet, and the design team has received input from those who will be using it, including fire staff, the emergency service coordinator, and other volunteer organisations.
District anticipates eight full-time staff and up to 50 paid on-call staff with five main vehicles will be using the new hall on Clark Drive.
The new hall will have facilities to accommodate 12 hour and overnight shifts as well as paid on-call staff facilities that include office and training needs.
One full time staff for emergency program and a space for up to 50 emergency response personnel in the EOC and breakout rooms during emergencies will be provided.
It will act as a post-disaster facility that can be self-sustaining and can be used to coordinate response, support, and recovery efforts during a prolonged event.
In September this year, the district awarded a tender for the design and construction of the fire hall. The cost for the fire hall is estimated to be $12 million, and it will take over two years to build it.
