Water quality advisory issued for Britannia Beach

January 6, 2020 10:37am

The water quality advisory issued for the Britannia Beach Water System two weeks ago is still in effect.

A water quality advisory means the risk is low, and only some customers are advised to take extra precautions when drinking the water.

The advisory was issued due to a recent equipment malfunction at the Britannia Beach treatment plant.

Because of the equipment malfunction, the water entering the reservoir is not being treated by ultraviolet disinfection.

The water quality is being closely monitored on an ongoing basis by the SLRD and the chlorination system is fully operational so the risk is low. However, some customers are being advised to take extra precautions until full operation of the UV system has been restored.

SLRD said those with very weak immune systems are advised to take extra precautions.

For these customers, water intended for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice, or brushing teeth should be boiled.
